Why Choose Val?

I have proven in the last year as Parks and Recreation Director that I know how to make and implement a plan of action.

I have proven that I can get things done. I already have experience working for the city and have had a front row seat to what works and what doesn't. If you are unfamiliar with that click

Not only do I have experience working for the city, but as a news reporter, I covered two counties and ultimately attended 4 city council meetings a month between here and Lake Village. During that time, I developed a profound interest in local government. I also covered Quorum Court Meetings. I not only observed the meetings and covered them, but I also did quite a bit of research at that time. I didn't just want to "write" the story, I wanted to make sure that I knew and understood what I was writing about. So even before I worked for the city, I was front row to the great leaf debate, the East Crossett Sewer Project, the ambulance debate when there was a possibility of a county wide ambulance service, when the city entered into the agreement with Crossett Canine Rescue and so many other city issues. I was there studying and writing about all of them.

In addition to be so familiar with local government, I have also spent a lot of time investing in Crossett and doing things to make our town better. I do get paid as Parks and Recreation Director now, but before the city ever issued me a paycheck, I coached teams, I organized spirit events (remember when we papered the town for the playoffs), I attended almost every local sporting event to make sure the kids were photographed and included in the paper. I attended golf tournaments, track meets, soccer games. I did not just stick to the traditional coverage of football and basketball. I sponsored Level UP, organized cleanup days, built parade floats for sports team, and participated in mentor programs for our youth.

I love Crossett and have always supported Crossett. I did not just decide to love Crossett because there is a job opening.

Even as Parks and Recreation Director I have taken on projects outside of my department to help out. Ask Mrs. Nancy Toon about the cemetery cleanup. She told me about an issue and I worked with another department and on "my own time" to help resolve her issue.

When people bring me a problem, I do my best to solve it. Ask anyone who works with me, I put in way more time than the time I get "paid" for. I am always do something "extra."

Don't take my word for it. Ask some of my supporters. I am so thankful to have earned the respect and support of so many.
